DeepSeek Harness ships with a default search backend tied to its official service, but many teams want to point their web search at a different engine. dsh-synthetic-web-search is a host-plane plugin that registers the Synthetic Search API as a provider in the Harness ctx.web capability seam, swaps the selection from deepseek-official to synthetic on install, and works alongside the bundled dsh-tool-web preset to expose the web_search tool to the model.

Two capabilities do the heavy lifting. The search adapter sends queries to Synthetic's /v2/search endpoint and maps the response fields (url, title, text, published) into the Harness source vocabulary (url, title, snippet, publishedAt), silently dropping malformed or non-URL entries. Failures are surfaced as standard error codes: WEB_PROVIDER_ERROR for network, redirect, HTTP, or shape issues; WEB_PROVIDER_CREDENTIAL_MISSING when no API key is configured; and WEB_ABORTED for cancellations. The bundled Settings card lets interactive users store the API key in the DSH credentials domain without it ever echoing back to the browser, while headless deployments can simply set the SYNTHETIC_API_KEY environment variable.

The plugin runtime-detects the shape of the Settings module at load time, so a single build works on both DeepSeek Harness 0.1.1-rc.2 and 0.1.2-rc.1 without version-specific installs. It is aimed at teams already running agents in the Harness web profile who want to swap to Synthetic Search or keep an easy path for rotating between multiple search providers.
