Restarting the dsh web backend usually means switching back to a terminal, killing the process, and relaunching it—a small friction that pulls you out of your reading or writing flow. Restart-service-button collapses that into a double-click in the top-right corner of the DSH web UI: the first click arms a red confirmation state that auto-cancels after five seconds, the second actually restarts the service, and the button then reads "Refresh page" so you can reload the browser once the backend is back.

Because it is a permanently installed plugin rather than a dynamic session add-on, the button survives restarts out of the box. A settings panel (Settings → Restart Button) lets you nudge the top and right offsets in pixel units; changes apply instantly and persist via localStorage, falling back to the 80/20 defaults only if you clear browser data. The button reuses DSH's design tokens with a transparent background and a light hover, so it blends into the interface without shouting. On the security side, the restart endpoint binds to loopback only, so a DSH web instance exposed on a LAN cannot be restarted remotely.

Built for developers who run dsh web locally and want on-screen control without reaching for a terminal. Windows is the primary and most thoroughly tested platform; a best-effort POSIX path (nohup) covers macOS and Linux with slightly less assurance.
